Research projects

The team of the SIRTA observatory is working on the topic of urban atmosphere dynamics in the context of several cross-cutting projects within the PANAME initiative.  PhD Jonnathan Céspedes (LMD-IPSL, École Doctorale IP Paris): The nocturnal Low-Level Jet in the Paris Region – Interactions with the urban atmosphere and surface characteristics PhD project (2020-2024) funded […]

Observations

In the framework of the PANAME initiative, a dense atmospheric boundary layer measurement network is being established in the Paris region, combining different types of ground-based remote sensing instrumentation, including automatic lidars and ceilometers (ALC), Doppler wind lidars and microwave radiometers at multiple sites along the rural-urban transect.

Scientific Objectives

It is  the objective of this research to improve the understanding of urban boundary layer dynamics through synergy analysis of advanced ABL observations from ground-based remote sensing. Air quality and local climates in cities are strongly influenced by the urban environment both directly through alterations in surface morphology and the surface energy balance and also […]
