Observations

In the framework of the PANAME initiative, a dense atmospheric boundary layer measurement network is being established in the Paris region, combining different types of ground-based remote sensing instrumentation, including automatic lidars and ceilometers (ALC), Doppler wind lidars and microwave radiometers at multiple sites along the rural-urban transect.

  • Three supersites, namely the SIRTA observatory (SW suburbs),  QUALAIR-SU (city centre) and Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport (NE suburbs) are equipped with Doppler wind lidar profilers and microwave radiometers that capture the vertical profile of 3D wind and turbulence and air temperature, respectively.
  • In addition to the ALC network analysis by the Paris ABL testbed, other lidar systems are operated in the Region by various projects which could be analysed in the future to enhance the ABL monitoring network density.
